How to make hang line accessories for baby

Here is my exciting headband holder tutorial.

Supplies:

1 to 2 yards of 1.5 inch grosgrain ribbon

1.25 inch D rings or heavy duty snap set

Non-slip contact paper

Sewing machine with coordinating thread

A lighter

1.  Use the lighter to melt the ends of your ribbon.

2.  It is time to starting pinning the loops.  For thinner headbands, fold the ribbon back 1.25 inches from the end.  Put your pin in on the one inch mark.  For thicker headbands, I folded my ribbon back 3.25 inches and pinned on the 3 inch mark.

3.  From your first pin, measure 2.25 inches up the ribbon.  From this point fold the ribbon back towards the first pin.

Stop the ribbon at the 1 inch mark above the first pin.  Now fold the ribbon back to your left and pin on the inch mark.  Follow the pictures and it will make more sense.  For the thicker headband loops, I measured up 4.25 inches.  Folded the ribbon down until it was 1 inch above the first pin.  Then I folded the ribbon back to the left and pinned on the inch mark.  You should have a loop that measure 3 inches from the pin to the end.

You should end up with something that looks like this picture.  The loop sizes can be adjusted to your needs.  Make them bigger or smaller.  Mix and match some big and some small.  With one yard of ribbon, I made 5 small loops and left some space for bobby pins and my snap.

4.  Head over to your sewing machine and stitch those loops in place.  I worked from the top loop to the bottom.  Set your machine to a quarter inch stitch.  Set your ribbon under the needle with where you pinned it.  Take out the needle and sew a straight line across the width of the ribbon.  Continue sewing the top of the loops all the way down.

5.  When your loops are finished being stitched, it's time to add your D ring or snap.  If you are using the snaps, follow the directions on the back of the package to make sure your fit the pieces in the right way.  The instructions recommend using a hammer to set them in place.  I like to use pliers to pinch them together.  Do what you are most comfortable with.  If you don't want to try the snap, sew the D ring to the end.  

6.  This part of the headband holder is key!  Cut 1.25 inch wide strips of you non slip contact paper.  Cut the strips into 1.5 inch pieces.  For the thicker loops my pieces were 1.25 x 4 inches.  Adjust to what you need.

Now fold your little pieces in half and stuff them into your loops.  You may need tweezers to pull them through because they don't slide very easily (that's a good thing).

My baby took it upon himself to test this project.  All of the headbands stayed in place as he shook them around.  No headbands were broken in the process. ;)

I had some extra space at the top and decided to add some of my bobby pins and do-dads.

This is a holder in full action with all five loops being used.
